Nursery
Holywell Green Nursery provides pre-school education for 3-4 year olds. In our Ofsted report in October 2004 the Inspectors stated that the children in Nursery 'achieve very well', 'teaching is very good', and that 'provision for children's learning is very good'.
Admission To Nursery
Our Nursery caters for children who are 3 years old and will be 4 during the year. The School acts as the admissions authority for Nursery, so you are invited to get in touch with the School to put your child's name down for future years or to find out if there are places available if your child is already of Nursery age. We are always happy to show parents around the Nursery so that they gat a taste of the high quality education that we offer. We currently offer flexible admissions for the 2 and a half days provision. Some children attend for 2 whole days and a half day, others for 5 mornings or 5 afternoons. We try to ensure that we meet the needs of the parents with their work patterns or care arrangements.
The Curriculum
All the children follow the Foundation Stage curriculum which continues for 2 years, taking in the first year in School.
The 6 areas of learning that the children participate in are:-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication, Language and Literacy
Mathematical Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Creative Development
The Nursery Environment
The Nursery is set in its own self contained unit within the School. The main part of the unit contains the learning areas where the children explore different parts of the curriculum. These include areas for reading, Maths, Science and ICT, and a 'wet' area which offers a range of creative activities. There are also toilets and a small kitchen for the preparation of snacks. Our superb outdoor play area enables the children to enjoy running around, pedalling bikes, digging in the sand pit or just relaxing and watching the birds.
The Nursery Staff
The Nursery staff ensure that the children will settle in well, are happy and can therefore learn through the many activities that are provided for them. We have an experienced team at Holywell Green. The provision of a teacher makes our Nursery very different to many day care settings. We also have very dedicated Nursery assistants. They ensure that parents feel that their children are cared for and that any concerns are addressed promptly.
Parental Involvement
We know that many parents want to be involved in their child's education and we are very happy for parents to stay during Nursery sessions. This can be on a regular basis or just for one off sessions.
Transition To School
During the Autumn term the admission booklets are given out for places in School. Many of the Nursery children move into our Reception class because we are the local school. Others do so because parents feel that they have established good friendships with some of their peers and they want that to continue in School. Some parents see the continuity of environment as important, where children remain in the same place taking advantage of the superb facilities that the School has to offer. We ensure that those children that will move into our Reception class visit that class and get to know the staff and familiarise themselves with what School is all about. This certainly benefits those children.
