School Meals

At Holywell Green Primary School, we believe that a healthy, nutritious meal helps children to learn, grow and enjoy their day.

Our school meals are freshly prepared each day in our own school kitchen by our experienced catering team. They know our children well and take great pride in providing balanced, tasty meals that children enjoy. We offer a varied menu that changes twice a year, with separate Summer and Winter menus to make the most of seasonal ingredients.

Throughout the year, we also celebrate special occasions with themed menus, and our traditional Christmas lunch is always a highlight of the school year.

School Meal Prices

The current cost of a school meal is:

£3.05 per day
£15.25 per week

Children are welcome to have a school meal on whichever days they choose. They do not need to have school dinners every day and can alternate between school meals and packed lunches if this suits your family.

Free School Meals

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal every day as part of the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.

Free School Meals for Eligible Families

From September 2026, children whose families receive Universal Credit are also entitled to free school meals throughout their time at primary school.

We encourage all eligible families to apply, even if your child is already receiving Universal Infant Free School Meals, as this may also enable the school to receive additional funding through the Pupil Premium. This funding helps us provide extra support, resources and opportunities for children.

If you think your child may be eligible, please contact Calderdale Council for advice or to make an application. Alternatively, our school office will be happy to help you access the information you need in confidence.

Special Dietary Requirements

We are committed to ensuring that every child can enjoy a healthy and safe school meal. If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or a medically prescribed dietary requirement, please let the school office know. We will work closely with our catering team and families to ensure appropriate meals are provided.

Menus

Our current school meal menus are available from the school office and can also be downloaded from our website (see below). They include a range of healthy, balanced meal options each day, along with vegetarian choices and fresh fruit.
