Our Classes

At Holywell Green Primary School, we are proud to be a small, welcoming community school where every child is known, valued and supported. Our class structure enables us to provide a nurturing environment where children build strong relationships with their teachers, develop confidence and receive the individual support and challenge they need to thrive.

Due to the size and organisation of our school, some of our classes are organised as mixed-age groups. This approach provides many benefits for our children, including opportunities to develop independence, leadership skills, collaboration and resilience. Children learn alongside a wider range of ages, supporting each other and developing positive relationships across the school community.

Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that all children receive a broad and ambitious education, with learning carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time. Teachers understand the needs of children across different year groups and adapt teaching to ensure that every pupil is appropriately challenged and supported. Regular assessment helps staff identify what children know, what they need to learn next and how best to support their progress.

Our Class Structure

Reception & Year 1

Our youngest children begin their school journey in our Reception & Year 1 class, where we provide a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment. Children develop strong foundations in early reading, writing and mathematics through a balance of adult-led teaching, purposeful play and practical experiences.

As children move into Year 1, they continue to build their independence while developing the knowledge and skills needed for Key Stage 1. The class environment supports curiosity, confidence and a love of learning from the very beginning of their time at school.

Year 2 & Year 3

Our Year 2 & Year 3 class builds on the strong foundations developed in the early years and provides children with opportunities to become increasingly independent learners.

Children continue to develop their skills in reading, writing and mathematics while enjoying a broad curriculum that encourages curiosity, creativity and problem solving. Working alongside children of different ages helps pupils develop confidence, teamwork and responsibility.

Year 4 & Year 5

Our Year 4 & Year 5 class provides children with opportunities to deepen their knowledge, develop greater independence and take increasing ownership of their learning.

Through an ambitious and engaging curriculum, pupils are encouraged to think critically, apply their knowledge and develop the skills they need to become confident learners. Children benefit from working collaboratively, supporting one another and taking on greater responsibility within the classroom and wider school community.

Year 6

Our Year 6 class is the final stage of our pupils’ primary school journey. As the oldest children in school, pupils are encouraged to be role models and demonstrate confidence, responsibility and respect.

Children are supported to achieve their best academically while developing the independence, resilience and life skills needed for a successful transition to secondary school. We ensure that Year 6 pupils have opportunities to celebrate their achievements and create lasting memories during their final year at Holywell Green.

A Family Atmosphere

One of the strengths of our school is the close-knit community that our structure creates. Children know one another well, older pupils support younger children and everyone is encouraged to contribute positively to school life.

Our dedicated staff work closely together to ensure that every child receives the care, guidance and high-quality teaching they need to succeed. Through strong relationships, high expectations and a shared commitment to every child, we provide a learning environment where children feel safe, happy and ready to achieve.
